Drone & FPV Glossary

Lithium-polymer battery, the standard power source for drones. Store at roughly half charge (about 3.8V per cell), charge with a proper balance charger, and never leave a charging pack unattended.

Motor speed constant: roughly how many RPM a motor spins per volt with no load. Higher KV favors lighter props and aggressive flying; lower KV favors bigger props and efficiency.

First-Person View. Flying via a live video feed from the drone to goggles or a screen, rather than watching the aircraft from the ground.

A small ducted quad built to carry an HD camera slowly and smoothly through tight spaces. The ducts protect people and props at low speed.

A palm-sized ducted micro quad, usually flown indoors. The cheapest and safest way to learn real FPV stick skills after the simulator.

Electronic Speed Controller. The circuit that translates flight-controller commands into precise motor speeds. On most modern quads, four ESCs live on one board.

The dominant open-source flight-control firmware for FPV quads. Used to configure rates, filters, failsafe, and OSD before the first flight.

A motorized stabilizing mount that keeps a camera level while the drone moves. Camera drones use 3-axis gimbals; FPV quads usually rely on electronic stabilization instead.
